Reiki I, also known as Shoden, translates to beginning teaching. The student receives an energetic attunement to initiate them into this spiritual and healing practice. The first degree of Reiki opens the door to invite the mystical in, providing simple and effective teachings to help the student learn how to apply this practice to their every day life. This practice teaches the student how to give Reiki to themselves and others. There is a strong focus on self treatments and strengthening the relationship to Soul Energy within.
Becoming Reiki I certified is the first step to learning this Japanese energy healing modality that has 3 degrees or levels. Learning the second degree of Reiki, also known as Okuden, deepens the practice and initiates the student to move beyond the physical, learning how to offer Reiki from a distance. Okuden starts to work more with the emotional and mental layers of the body and gives further instruction to use more advanced techniques when working with others.
As the student moves through their initiation and trainings, the final stepping stone for this practice is Shinpinden, the 3rd degree of Reiki. This is when the student becomes the teacher and learns how to work with more of the spiritual aspects of this practice. The student, now teacher, learns how to pass these teachings on and offer energetic attunements to others looking to be initiated into the practice. The initiate becomes a beacon for this healing practice to live on in the world and be embodied daily.
